This section outlines the whole
procedure of accessing, collecting, organizing, storing and destroying data. This
section is divided into the following sections (varies based on the research
design carried out):
1. Pre-data-collection
procedures if applicable (ie. pilot testing, pre-entry phase etc)
2. Procedures
for securing clearances; seeking for permissions
a. Administrative
clearance from institution where study will be collected
b. Social
license to participate (entrée) for community-based studies
c. Clearance
to access records (if needed)
3. Process
of recruitment and securing individual informed consent
a. Informed
consent process for adult subject
b. Parental
consent and child’s assent process for minors
4. Step-by-step
process of data collection
a. Indicate
all the materials needed, the roles of the members of the research team,
specific details of each activity, time allotment for each step and properly
cited literature to justify the steps undertaken.
b. Remember
that different research methods may have different procedures (example:
administration of online survey is different from written survey; interviews
are different from FGDs, etc).
c. Establish
the consistency, accuracy and reliability of the data collection process and
make sure that the steps are aligned with the research questions and the
research design’s principles.
d. For
studies with multiple methods, multiple phases or triangulation, remember that
each type of method, data and participant must have its own discussion of the
processes unique to each.
5. Quality
assurance procedures for data collection and management
6. Process
of data storage, security and organization
7. Process
of data destruction
8. Present
a diagram/flowchart that summarizes all procedures and label accordingly.
9. During
proposal, present a Gantt chart.
